Review of Literature
Human nature tends to take things for granted when we have a proliferation of something in specific. It’s the case with photography (Laurent, Olivier). As we are all fortunate to have access to a camera of sorts, we create the misconception that photography can be done by “anybody” and “easily” (Klang, Morgan). Throughout my auto ethnography I will give you an insider’s view into the world of photography. From great historic photograph analysis, such as “the afghan girl” (Callwood, Taylor) to social projects (Stanton, Brandon) that connect people and communicate ideals. The covers will be taken off the myth of the “rock star life” that photographers are said to live (Professional Photographer: Average Annual Salary) and in it’s place we will see the great work, time, and on occasion’s blood (Portraits of War) and sweat that is shed to accomplish photographic tasks (Milton, Joe). Also, rumors that call for the death of photography due to other mediums, such as video, will be argued and given light to explain why this will never be the case (Bilton, Nick). All in all, I invite you to view life through the eyes of the person behind the lens.
